چکیده

Using a new s-nucleosynthesis code coupled with the stellar evolution code Star2003, simulations have been performed to study the impact of the convection treatment on the s-process during core He-burning of a 25 M⊙ star (ZAMS mass) with an initial metallicity of Z=0.02. Particular attention has been devoted to the impact of the extent of overshooting on the s-process efficiency. The results show enhancements of about a factor 2-3 in s-process efficiency (measured as the average overproduction factor of the 6 s-only nuclear species with 60 . A . 90) with overshooting parameter values in the range 0.01-0.035, compared to results obtained with the same model but without overshooting. The impact of these results on the p-process model based on type II supernovae is discussed.

The s - process weak component : uncertainties due to convection theory

Using a new s-nucleosynthesis code coupled with the stellar evolution code Star2003, simulations have been performed to study the impact of convection treatment on the s-process during core He-burning of a 25 M⊙ star (ZAMS mass) with initial solar metallicity. A diffusive approach, with the diffusion constant proportional to the convective velocity obtained from the mixing length theory, has be...

How to define the boundaries of a convective zone and how extended is overshooting ?

Under nonlocal convection theory, convection extends without limit therefore no apparent boundary can be defined clearly as in the local theory. From the requirement of a similar structure for both local and non-local models having the same depth of con-vection zone, and taking into account the driving mechanism of turbulent convection, we argue that a proper definition of the boundary of a con...

The effects of near-core convective shells on the gravity modes of the subdwarf B pulsator KIC 10553698A

KIC 10553698A is a hot pulsating subdwarf B (sdB) star observed by the Kepler satellite. It exhibits dipole (l = 1) and quadrupole (l = 2) gravity modes with a clear period spacing structure. The seismic properties of the KIC 10553698A provide a test of stellar evolution models, and offer a unique opportunity to determine mixing processes. We consider mixing due to convective overshooting beyon...

Detection of tropical deep convective clouds from AMSU-B water vapor channels measurements

[1] Methods to detect tropical deep convective clouds and convective overshooting from measurements at the three water vapor channels (183.3 ± 1, 183.3 ± 3, and 183.3 ± 7 GHz) of the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-B (AMSU-B) are presented. Thresholds for the brightness temperature differences between the three channels are suggested as criterion to detect deep convective clouds, and an order ...

Convective overshooting on the Sun: radiative effects

We calculate solar models with convective overshooting at the top and at the base of the outer convection zone, and test the models by comparing their eigenfrequencies to the observed solar p-mode frequencies. Radiative temperature relaxation is included in form of a characteristic time that describes both optically thick and thin cases, and a modified mixing-length formalism is used, with gas ...
